This project is the result of far too many hours spent online reading forums, rewatching replays, double-checking obscure rulings to figure out whether I got sharked or not, and, more generally, looking for a throughline in the chaos surrounding this format.

This resource aims to be a curated, structured, and (hopefully) readable breakdown of the format, as I understand it and as I think it should be understood, based on structured research, firsthand experience, and the opinions of people more experienced than me. Plus a healthy dose of nerd passion.

At first I approached this project like a mix between a tech startup and an academic paper, but I don’t want it to be either one.

While I’m aiming to be as accurate, clean, and technical as possible, I also don’t want to be a pain to read. This blog is meant to be read and enjoyed, not just pulled out when you’re at the table in damage step trying to figure out whether you can activate My Body as a Shield in substep 6 off Ryko’s effect, or whether Treeborn Frog can activate under Skill Drain.

I don’t intend to cover every single tiny aspect of the game. I’d rather focus on what I think actually matters: the key mechanics, the most common mistakes, and all those edge cases and dynamics that define the game at the highest levels. The idea is to filter out the noise without sucking the joy out of it for players, because at the end of the day, let’s remember it’s still just a game.
